It's hard for someone who is in their 30's or 40's to meet people outside of work. Most of the social groups tend to be a little geriatric.
It's also more fun to go to a bar when you know you're likely to actually meet someone that you'd like to get to know.
So once a month we'll meet at a bar. We'll announce the meeting before hand (and warn the bar) so, OK, it isn't actually a Flash Mob (I don't know where you people get this idea).
So that we know each other, wear a wristwatch with the face pointed inward (if you remember to) and we'll have a drink or three with no name tags or any other avoidable social pressures.

They have a pint special for $2.00 on a wide selection of major domestic, imported and specialty beers. There's pool tables, darts, shuffleboard, video games...
