 m\n\nEvent : Earth Day Volunteer clean-up\nDate: 04-26-2009 (I know the rea
 l Earth day is 4-22 but its a Wednesday!) \nTime: 10:00 AM\nPrice: Free of
Course\nSkill Level: 3 - Mostly easy stuff. There will be opportunities for
everyone to help.\n\nDescription: Here at TerraMar we believe very strongl
y in both giving back to our community and in being excellent stewards of o
ur environment. So\, for Earth Day\, we are teaming up with Fairmont Park C
ommission\, Wisahickon Restoration Volunteers\, the Philadelphia Rock Gym a
nd the US Fish and Wildlife Commission and getting together to take care of
our environment. And\, what better way to do it than to help clean up and
maintain the environment and trail systems that we love so much.\n\nThis ye
ar we are very excited to announce that we will have three locations. The f
irst location is in our favorite hiking area of Fairmont Park\, the Wissahi
ckon Valley. We will be working with the Fairmont Park Commission on variou
s projects like trail reconstruction\, removing invasives\, litter removal
and clearing vines. For anyone who has not been there before\, Wissahickon
is truely an oasis of nature in this big busy city of ours. If you hike in
just a short ways\, you will be astounded at how truly wild it feels with t
he tall forest canopy above and the creek running through below. We are ver
y proud to be organizing our sixth cleanup here.\n\nAs you know\, last year
we had such a great turnout\, we needed to expand to a second project site
. So\, we ventured out to the West of Center City and the The John Heinz Na
tional Wildlife Refuge. We will be going back and we will be working with t
he Department of Interior's U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service with projects ai
med at marsh restoration and to clean up the area of the Darby Creek. The r
efuge is also a very special place. It was established by an act of Congres
s in 1972 to protect the last 200 acres of freshwater tidal marsh in Pennsy
lvania. When acquisition is complete\, it will consist of 1200 acres of var
ied habitats. Over the years\, the refuge has become a resting and feeding
area for more than 280 species of birds\, 80 of which nest here. Fox\, deer
 \, muskrat\, turtles\, fish\, frogs and a wide variety of wildflowers and p
lants call the refuge "home".\n\nThis year we are expanding again\, this ti
me to Ralph Stover State Park. I am excited about this one because it is a
place that is near and dear to my heart. Anyone who rock climbs in Philly k
nows this is a special place. So\, please come and help out. I am offering
special Earth Day T-Shirts and/or reusable grocery bags to participants (wh
ile supplies last). So\, tell me your shirt size when you sign up.\n\nCloth
ing and Equipment: Wear layers of clothing that you can get dirty. Be prepa
 red for a little rain (April showers . . .)\n\n\n\n\nHey everyone: \n\nHere
