Based on an incredible true story, this powerful tale of a village’s persecution of an innocent woman becomes both a daring act of witness and a compelling parable about mob rule. We can have a late diner and discuss the movie.

Are you ready to train for and finish a full or half marathon? Our team is now forming to train for the Philadelphia Distance Run (1/2 marathon) and the Philadelphia Marathon.

This Spring we trained to run the Broad Street Run and it was an overwhelming success. We had many members who had never run a distance race before and came out beating their expectations. I also lost 10 lbs and improved my mile time on short distances (5ks) by two minutes per mile! We had 27 runners cross the finish line and every one did great and made new friends in the process. I would not have been in shape to run the race if not for the help of my teammates.

So, now it is time to kick it up to the next level. Lots of people ask, why run a marathon? The best answer I have heard yet - Because it's hard. Think about it. Those of us who strive to push ourselves to live an extraordinary life want to meet goals and accomplish things that would make most other people wilt, give up, or go away. President Kennedy set a national goal of landing a man on the Moon and told us that we choose to do this not because it is easy but because it is hard.

Most of us can never stand on the Moon. But, we can run a marathon. You just need to put one foot after another 52,000 times! I know that any one of our members can achieve this goal through discipline and practice because I have done it. I have seen the program work and I have felt the joy and pain of its fruition. All you need to be able to do to be ready for this program is run three miles 2-4 times per week by the end of June.

Join our training team for help with the discipline and the camaraderie that will carry you through. Both the training and the race should prove to be very successful.

I am proud to annouce our coach, Maine Prince, is a real star. He coaches professional athletes in many sports but also works very hard with local high school and college students in a vigorous combination of athletic and scholastic conditioning. Maine has been the official speed coach of the Philadelphia Eagles for the past five years and his clients normally pay hundreds of dollars for a marathon training program like ours. He is giving our group a special deal though. Join us and you will get a huge discount off the normal rate and also get water and snacks after all runs and a really cool, micro-fiber team jersey.

We will meet every Saturday Morning at 8:00 am for our group run.
where: Usually Lloyd Hall (the public boathouse on boathouse row, right behind the Art Museum and next to the Waterworks) Some weekends we will mix it up with a run at Valley Forge or in the Wissahickon.

The program will also include 2-3 workouts per week (depending on your fitness level and goals) which will be on your own. I will try to create a database of team members so you can find other team members to work out with for the other weekly workouts.

Cost: $99.00 - This includes the training program and individual training from the coach, a technical team jersey made from fast wicking fibers suitable for running long distances, discounted purchases at Philadelphia Runner (if you buy your running equipment there it practically pays for itself), invaluable team camaraderie, organized weekly group runs, snacks and water at all group runs. This does not include your entry fee to the race.

To enroll, all you need to do is pay for the program and sign the liability release.

RACE: Are We So Different? represents the work of scientists, artists, and researchers who have come together to explore a seemingly simple question—are we really so different? An immersive exhibit experience, RACE helps us understand the origins and manifestations of race and racism in everyday life through a variety of educational displays, interactive activities, and multimedia presentations.

We will dine afterwards at a local establishment. Please join me, this looks like fun.

A NIGHT OUT IN MANAYUNK!!

A named derived from a Lenape Indian word meaning
"where we go to drink" !

So what better way to enjoy great weather, conversation,
and company than hitting a few oustanding venues in Manayunk
for food/drink!!

We will start at Bourbon Blue, at 8pm....

Bourbon has some great beer selections, amazing
martinis, and excellent appetizers (for anyone interested).

walk over to Manayunk Brew Pub...

Originally a textile mill from the early 1800's,
the Brew Pub is now a keystone for theManayunk night life.....
With multiple bars, music styles and dance
floors, and recognized as one of the best brewpubs in the city,
we'll hang out here for at least several hours.

From there....possibilities include Mad River, Kildares, and several
other options, which we'll decide on later that night....

(Feel free to order food/appetizers throughout the night
at the various bars, there is no 'formal' sit down dinner planned)

You will be emailed several days prior with more specific contact
information.

FYI - Venues we visit may/may not have cover charges / each is different, but
typically around $5. for those that do.

Bourbon Blue will not have a cover charge for the time we are planning
on being there.
