Last year, there were more than 500 in attendance so make sure to get your tickets early.

This year’s event will be held from 7:30 pm – 11 pm at Romano’s Macaroni Grill on Davie Street, in Vancouver.

September is the season of abundance, when market and home gardens overflow with the fruits of the land. People of all cultures gather to give thanks for the bounty of the harvest and prepare for the coming winter. On Sunday, September 21st from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. VanDusen Botanical Garden celebrates the season with a new special event: Plenty – Harvest Celebration & Farmers’ Market. The event will focus on growing local food, supporting local and sustainable agriculture by buying local and eating local products.

The day promises to evoke harvest celebrations of the past with something for everyone to enjoy. There will be a mini Farmers’ Market featuring many of the food growers you have come to know through the Trout Lake, West End and Nat Bailey Markets. Look for such gems as the last of the summer tomatoes, various squashes, Helmer's famed organic potatoes, artichokes, herbs, hazelnuts, apples and salad greens. Many of the food producers will also be on hand selling jewel-toned jars of preserves, jams, jellies and other condiments created from farm-fresh ingredients. You’ll find the Mini-Market in the Buy Local area of the Fair.

In the Grow Local section we plan to have nursery vendors selling berry bushes, grape vines as well as fruit and nut trees for your home garden. This is also where we will offer seminars and demonstrations on such urban agriculture-related topics as composting, growing organically and pruning. VanDusen’s Guides have developed a special Edible Garden Tour including stops at many of our native edibles, the heirloom vegetable garden and the bee hives.

What would an event devoted to the harvest season without food? That’s where Eat Local comes in. An area devoted to high quality food vendors offering tasty and nutritious sustenance – from organic fair-trade coffee and Indian vegetarian snacks to delicious flatbread pizzas and salads created by the Rocky Mountain Flatbread Company. Plenty of Fall fare for a Fall fair.

Plenty Harvest Celebration is an event for the whole family. In Compost Hollow, kids can take a ‘worm shop’ and learn how to compost their food waste. The Youth Education Department is designing special kid-friendly workshops on seeds, pollination and growing food in your own yard or balcony. Musicians and performers will stroll about the grounds rounding out the festive atmosphere. You’ll love meeting the Veggie People Mascots – modeled after characters found on seed packets in the 1880s.

Mark it on your calendars – Sunday, September 21st – there will be plenty to see, plenty to do, plenty to learn and plenty to eat at our local harvest celebration!

Proceeds from admissions help VanDusen Botanical Garden, a registered non-profit charity, to grow. For more information on VanDusen Botanical Garden and its events, please visit the Garden’s web site at www.vandusengarden.org The Garden is located in the heart of Vancouver at 5251 Oak Street at West 37th Avenue. There’s plenty of free parking, or leave your car at home and take the #17 Oak bus right to our door.

Stereotype Fridays, Blueprint and Focus are proud to present John Digweed With Kevin Shiu at Celebrities Nightclub

Friday, September 12, 2008
Time: 9:00 PM - 3:00 AM
Buy Tickets: $30

Highlights would be the first proper dj mix compilation (Renaissance, done with Sasha), being the first British dj to hold a residency at what was then the worlds most well known club in NYC (Twilo, also with Sasha) as well as having remixed tracks by Danny Tenaglia, Underworld and New Order.

John Digweed is a DJ’s DJ. The beauty of what he does lies in just how different he really is from his contemporaries. From his early beginnings in Hastings, England at the age of 15 in the blossoming scene of acid house to the apex of the international dj’ing world, he has created and maintained a level of integrity that is the benchmark for both djs and producers globally. In fact, he has reached the very top of his profession, being voted ..1 in a voter’s poll by DJ magazine in 2001. John Digweed has become the peoples choice while maintaining his longstanding presence in underground dance culture. His popularity as both a dj and a person seems to have no limits, but his efforts transcend dj’ing alone, he is as much a producer and promoter. His moniker Bedrock is actually three things: a record label, a promotions company and a studio production partnership (with Nick Muir).

His management and creative direction for the Bedrock record label has helped launch the careers of Danny Howells (with Dick Trevor as Science Department), Jimmy Van M, Chris Fortier and Phil Thompson (Moonface). He has had the vision and creative insight to seek out mixes and remixes from artists as varied as Rui Da Silva, POB, Freelance Icebreakers and the Second Hand Satellites. The label has effectively served as a foundation for artistic expression and a medium for creative output, allowing underground artists to break through to a much wider audience. To have a record released on Bedrock serves as the global stamp of production quality, ingenuity and integrity for producers worldwide.

Digweed is both solid and durable with unyielding precision. His sinuous dj’ing and production sound has become its own convincing dance ethic. He is centered to the principles of life, living and friends in such a way that he generates an aura of self-explanatory excitement and enthusiasm. Without heroic pretensions his sets are filled with moodiness and musical mystery but held down with a punchy distinctiveness and earthly rhythm. Always emanating a sense of boundlessness he overlaps dream events that spill into reality with an enormous certainty. Check John Digweed at Myspace

Based in Vancouver, Canada's Kevin Shiu has been at the forefront of club culture for the last 17 years. His magic touch, keen foresight and suave mannerisms have propelled him into headliner status at clubs around the world. His signature style ranges from deep tech house through driving progressive house and remains true to the underground sound that first inspired him: a deep, moody sound with pounding percussion and a mighty hypnotic groove.
