Larry would like to do an outing to the El Malpais in July
2009. The tentative dates are 8-12 July.

We would be car camping on the Continental Divide Trail in the Chain of Craters region.
It's about 120 miles from ABQ with the last 20 on dirt, gravel, and lava roads.
High clearance vehicles or 4x4 required, NO CARS.

There are no restrooms or water at the site. Bring everything you need to survive.
My plan there is to do some minor work on the CDT and lots of hiking.
It will be very warm during the day and nights should be cool.
Campers are welcome to arrive and depart at their convenience, one day, one night
or the entire time.

For more information call Larry at [masked] or email me at: [masked]

NOTE: Marcy is posting for Larry - do not contact her - she's on Cape Cod.

This outing is basically for campers. Its a very primitive area and the stars should be bright at night. You can hike when and where you want. If you have a special request just email me and I'll try and work it in.

    •  I camped at about 8,000 feet in a small grove of large pine trees. It was so quiet for the 5 days, I wish I was still there. Worked on the CDT Trail and hiked in the afternoons. Some rain, cool at night, not too bad during the day.
