Special Olympics - Summer Games

Volunteer your afternoon and show some love for the athletes at the 2008 Special Olympics Southern California (SOSC) Summer Games. This event will be held on June 14th on the CSULB Campus. I am posting this event well in advance in order to provide SOSC administrative staff an idea of how many volunteers we will have. Also, this will increase the likelihood that our members will be grouped together.

The three sporting events that the administrative staff recommended to us are as follows:

Basketball - Positions include scorekeeping, timekeeping, updating scoreboards, cheering on athletes, and running errands.

Bocce (similar to lawn bowling) - Positions include line judging, supervising athletes, fielding balls, cheering on athletes, running errands, and distributing information.

Gymnastics - Assist with registration, cheering on athletes, running errands, and venue breakdown

The shift for the above mentioned events will be from 11:00 A.M. until 4:00 P.M. Note that if you are not able to attend this time slot, but would like to participate either on Saturday or Sunday (Father's Day) morning at 7 A.M., let me know. I judgmentally selected Saturday afternoon thinking that this would be the most desired shift.

Volunteers must be 14 years or older to participate. Also, volunteers are asked to wear a white shirt and navy shorts, pants, jeans, or skirt. Sunblock and shades are highly recommended. Volunteer t-shirts will be available for purchase at the price of $5. Note that it is necessary for all volunteers to show up on time.

If you think that you might want to participate, mark your RSVP as "YES" for now so that we can get an idea of the maximum number of people that will be volunteering from our group. You can always change your RSVP later if your schedule has a conflict. Finally, please indicate the sporting event that you prefer when you RSVP.
